Work through two real document tasks using our six-page synthetic report packet. No account, private document, or upload is needed. The result is created and checked in your browser—not a prewritten success message.

Know the source before changing it

The packet has six labelled pages. Page 3 is deliberately rotated 90°. Page 4 is a landscape schedule with a wider page box, not just rotated portrait content. Every page contains selectable English text and its original-page label. This lets you distinguish a page’s current position from its identity.

All content is synthetic. The exercises do not inspect, replace, or store your own files.

Exercise 01 · Assembly

Swap two distant pages and correct a sideways scan

Suppose two certificates were placed in the wrong order. Swap positions 2 and 5, then turn original page 3 upright. Do not rotate the landscape schedule: a landscape page is not necessarily a mistake.

  1. Start with original-page labels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
  2. Exchange positions 2 and 5. The new sequence is 1, 5, 3, 4, 2, 6.
  3. Change page 3’s rotation metadata from 90° to 0° without converting its text into an image.
Expected original-page labels
  1. 1
  2. 5
  3. 3
  4. 4
  5. 2
  6. 6

Exercise 02 · Extraction

Send an appendix without sending the whole report

Reopen the original, not the reordered output. Extract positions 1, 4–5. The result must have three pages labelled 1, 4, 5. The landscape schedule moves from input position 4 to output position 2 while retaining its wide page dimensions.

This difference matters in real reports: a printed page number, original page label, and current PDF position can refer to different things. Split uses current physical positions. It does not rewrite a printed contents page.

  1. 1
  2. 4
  3. 5

Check recognition separately from page assembly

Page reordering does not make scans searchable. Our second sample is intentionally image-only: there is no selectable text until OCR recognizes it. Open the OCR tool, load the safe sample, and process page 1. Search for BLUE FOLDER, then compare the copied reference number 4827 with the visible scan. A searchable result can still contain recognition mistakes.

What the automatic checks do—and do not—prove

The workshop reopens the generated bytes and checks page count, original-page labels, rotation metadata, retained text, and the landscape page. The canvas previews render pages from the actual source and result. These checks do not prove that every form, bookmark, attachment, signature, or font in an unrelated PDF will survive an operation. Always review your own output in the reader used by its recipient.

These are two worked examples, not a certification or a claim that every tool is compatible with every PDF. Troubleshooting and feedback help us investigate unexpected results without collecting private documents.
